We hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend, just what we needed, a mini break to recharge and head back into Term 2. A special welcome to our New Entrant beginners and whānau who have started CPS in rooms 16 and 19.
|
During Tuesday's Teacher Only Day, our staff engaged in professional development centered on the refreshed curriculum. Although these changes are occurring rapidly, our teachers are doing an outstanding job of navigating new documentation and information to strengthen their teaching practices. This is particularly vital given the increased curriculum knowledge and content students are now expected to master.

With mid-year reporting underway, our teachers maintain a high level of accountability for student achievement and progress. They are currently working through the complexities of aligning their professional judgment with new progress markers that demand greater student proficiency, deeper knowledge transfer, and elevated expectations, a significant undertaking indeed.
|
Technology allows us to communicate more easily than ever before, but it can also create an expectation of immediate responses. During the school day, our teachers are focused on teaching, learning, and supporting students, and may not always be able to respond to emails straight away. While staff aim to reply within 24 - 48 working hours, we also recognise the importance of protecting staff wellbeing by allowing teachers time to switch off from work, spend time with their families, rest, and recharge. This helps ensure they are fully present and at their best for students each day. For all urgent matters during the school day, please contact the school office on 09 575 8156. We value our partnership with families and communication that supports positive outcomes for students and teachers. Please take a moment to familiarise yourself with our Communication Expectations (see graphic below), which outline how we can work together to maintain positive and productive communication across our school community.

We sincerely appreciate your ongoing support for the various fundraising efforts organised throughout the school year, ranging from PTA functions to external initiatives such as the recent Pink Shirt Day. It is an opportunity for the children to get involved, join in the spirit of having some fun. We recognise that not every family is in a position to participate in every fundraiser. A gold coin donation is not an expectation, rather a choice.

Churchill Park School is a beautiful place that is enjoyed not only during the school day but also by our wider community outside of school hours. We regularly see students and families making use of our playgrounds, basketball courts, and fields as an extension of their backyards, which is wonderful to see. All students are expected to leave school grounds at 3.00 pm when the school day finishes (unless supervised by parents). If students wish to return to the school grounds after school, they must first go home, change out of their school uniform, and ensure their parents or caregivers are aware of their whereabouts and plans.

When using school grounds outside of school hours, students are expected to uphold our school values of Responsibility, Respect, and Resilience and demonstrate safe, responsible behaviour at all times. While students are representing themselves in the community, they are also representatives of Churchill Park School, and our expectations for positive conduct remain the same both during and outside of school hours.
|
For safety reasons, electric scooters are not permitted on school grounds. We ask that students ride these elsewhere and help us ensure our grounds remain a safe environment for everyone to enjoy.
|
For any concerning behaviour outside of school hours please don’t hesitate to call the police on 111.

Top field
At CPS, we are always looking for ways to ensure our school grounds best serve our students and wider community. We are currently reviewing the layout of our school field and are considering the removal of the rugby posts.
Why are we considering this? We would love to utilise this space to introduce a wider variety of sporting activities, giving our tamariki more diverse options to stay active and play.

This is it whānau! It’s that time of year when youth across Aotearoa come together for The World Vision 40 Hour Challenge - happening from June 19th-21st 2026.
We’re challenging you to go offline for 40 hours and raise funds so children in Solomon Islands can get the nutritious food they need. Whether it’s no phone, gaming, social media, or even power. You get to choose what you’ll do and how you’ll do it.

Waitematā Museum Trip
|
On Friday 15th of May our class went to the museum to learn about WW1. First we did a scavenger hunt. We searched through every floor trying to find different things. My favourite exhibit was the volcano room, where the room made the sound of a volcano erupting. I enjoyed it because it was fun and exciting. The best part of the volcano room was the lounge room looking over Mission Bay. Next, it was room 7's turn to go into the education session. We learnt about the New Zealand Wars and the Māori Battalion. Over all I think this trip was a great experience.

Crazy Hair Day
It was fantastic to see so many students and staff getting involved in Crazy Hair Day last week. Even a few parents were spotted sporting crazy beards and wacky hairdos! The effort, creativity, and enthusiasm shown across the school was outstanding.
|
This event was a PTA fundraiser for the school. Our PTA does an amazing job throughout the year. Their hard work and dedication help provide valuable opportunities and resources for our students, and we are incredibly grateful for all they do.
|
|
New members and helping hands are always welcome, so please get in touch if you would like to be part of this fantastic team or come along to the PTA AGM on the 8th June at 2pm.

Hato Hone First Aid
On Monday 18th May, Asha came to Churchill Park School from Hato Hone St John. She spoke to us about First Aid and what to do in an emergency.
|
Firstly, D stands for danger. You look around the place. If there is something dangerous in the way, quickly remove it.
|
Next response. Try calling out their name and shaking them.
|
Then send for help. Call 111 if they don’t respond.
|
After you send for help, make sure their airway is clear. You lift up their chin and make sure it stays that way.
|
Finally, breathing. Make sure they are breathing. Hover your hand over their mouth and nose. Look at their chest and belly to see if it moves.
|
That’s what you do in an emergency.

World Vision Recycle Fair
|
|
|
Next term, on Thursday 30th July, we will be holding our biennial recycle fair to raise money to support our two sponsored World Vision students, Fahim and Hiya, from Bangladesh.
|
We are actively seeking quality books, games, puzzles and toys to support this worthy cause. We will also have a bake sale and would appreciate baking on the day.
|
|

School Payments
|
The School Donation remains at $525. Most parents will be entitled to claim a tax rebate - if you are a top tax rate payer a 33% reduction is available.
|
|
|
|
Please make school payments through your mykindo account. There are several methods to add funds to your account. Add regular topups if you'd like, then allocate to payments when you're ready, or just pay as you go. mykindo is also where you can order school lunches. Set up your kindo account.

PTA Welcomes New Members – And a New Chair
|
We are looking for someone to take over the role of PTA Chair — an invaluable position where you help guide our fundraising efforts and support the amazing opportunities we provide for our school.
|
|
Every dollar raised by the PTA goes directly back into the school. Thanks to the hard work of past committees, we’ve been able to fund the turf, drinking fountains, handball tables, wet‑day boxes, and many other smaller items that make a big difference to our children’s day‑to‑day school life.
|
|
The PTA is a small, friendly group of parents who meet eight times a year, organising six events for the school community. It’s a great way to get involved, meet other families, and help shape the fun and community spirit of our school.
|
|
If you’re interested in joining — or stepping into the Chair role — we’d love to hear from you. Everyone is welcome, and full support will be provided.
|
|
We will be holding our AGM on the 8th June at 2pm, and would love to have new Chair voted in at that meeting.
