From our Principal - Marie Todd
A huge thank you to the wonderful parents who were able to join us for our Parent Helper Morning Tea this week. I would like to acknowledge and celebrate the many parents and whānau who have generously given their time, skills, and support throughout the year. Whether you have helped in classrooms, supported trips and events, assisted with sports teams, contributed through the PTA, or quietly helped behind the scenes, please know how much we value and appreciate all you do. Our school is strengthened by the many and varied ways you contribute.

This Friday, we look forward to our inaugural annual Service Assembly, where we recognise the students who have taken on leadership roles and responsibilities across the school. These roles include House Captains, Peer Mediators, Tech Support, Enviro Leaders, Librarians, Student Council representatives, and many others who serve our school community with commitment and pride. This assembly is a special opportunity to celebrate the students who show initiative, reliability, and mana in supporting both their peers and the smooth running of our school.

Thank you to the parents and caregivers who completed the recent student leadership survey. Your feedback has been invaluable as we review our student leadership model for 2026. Based on your responses, CPS will shift toward a more distributed student leadership approach, rather than the traditional Head Boy and Head Girl structure. This model will allow more students to step into meaningful roles, contribute in areas aligned with their strengths and interests, and take part in authentic leadership opportunities that better reflect the diverse capabilities of our learners. We look forward to sharing more about this development early next year.

You may be aware of the recent national concerns regarding asbestos contamination found in some batches of coloured sand products used in schools and early learning centres. I want to reassure our community that we have taken a proactive and considered approach. As soon as the updated MBIE advisory was released, we checked all products on site, removed any items that could pose a risk, and secured them as instructed. As a precautionary measure, a batch was taken for independent testing, and we are currently awaiting the results. We appreciate that the presence of asbestos in products used by children may understandably cause worry for parents and caregivers. To ensure the ongoing health and safety of our community, we will continue to follow the guidance of the Ministry of Education and WorkSafe as this matter evolves. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We will keep you updated when new information becomes available.

Trees for Survival
We had the final plant up 3 weeks ago with the Year 7 & 8 students, Enviro Reps in Year's 3 - 6 and adult helpers. Now 700 new seedlings are in the school nursery being nurtured to grow strong enough to be planted out next year in our school community.

Room 16 writing

Year 8 EPro8 Semi-Final
|
On November 13th, Xav S, Isla P, Lucas C, and Will C went to Meadowbank School to compete in the next round of the EPro8 science and engineering competition. The theme for the challenges was based on movies - Indiana Jones, Thunderbirds, Back to the Future, and Jaws. We unanimously chose to build the Thunderbirds 2 bunker. First, we constructed a cube out of aluminium poles. Next, we added sliding bunker doors on top. The final design was meant to function as a bunker: a hatch would open, another panel would rise through the gap with the Thunderbird (represented by a soap bottle), and an air pump attached to the Thunderbird’s opening would activate. Then the compressed air would launch Thunderbird 2 and, finally, the hangar doors would close. In the end we came second place which means that we are through to the EPro8 Grand Final competition next month!

Table Tennis Tournament
|
Last Thursday, we went to Epsom for a Table Tennis tournament. It was fun and exciting. There were massage chairs for kids who had finished their games. At the end, we got to play games to win lollies. At the start, we were a bit nervous but still a bit excited. At the end, we felt proud of winning some games. Sam even won three games with a broken arm. Thank you to Miss Caiger and the parents who came with us.

The School Donation remains at $525. Most parents will be entitled to claim a tax rebate - if you are a top tax rate payer a 33% reduction is available.

Waitematā and Karaka swimming contribution is $90. If you have already paid, thank you. If not, your prompt payment via kindo would be appreciated. Payment is taken as permission.
|
Please make school payments through your mykindo account. There are several methods to add funds to your account. Add regular topups if you'd like, then allocate to payments when you're ready, or just pay as you go. mykindo is also where you can order school lunches. Set up your kindo account.

Kids love a good sausage sizzle, and every fundraiser helps the PTA support Churchill Park School.
|

We already have someone from this year who can help, but we’re looking for someone to take on the role, run it independently, and manage the sausage sizzles with full support from the PTA.
