It’s hard to believe we are already in Week 5. The term is in full swing, and there is a wonderful sense of energy across our school as students continue to grow in confidence and capability. Many of our new beginners are walking into school by themselves, which is a huge celebration of their growing sense of belonging and of parent support in building their independence.
|
Our recent Swimming Sports were a fantastic success. It was wonderful to see so many students embracing the opportunity, whether competing in timed races or participating in non-competitive events. Events like these reflect our values of Respect, Responsibility, and Resilience. We saw students challenging themselves, supporting one another, and celebrating personal bests. Just as importantly, there was laughter, encouragement from the sidelines, and genuine pride in effort. Thank you to our staff and whānau who supported the day and helped make it such a positive experience for all learners.

Waitematā Whānau Camp First Overnight Experience
|
Next week, our Waitematā Whānau head off to camp, an exciting milestone as many students experience their first overnight school camp. Camp provides far more than outdoor adventure. It is an opportunity to build team spirit and strengthen friendships, along with developing independence and resilience, giving students opportunities to step outside of their comfort zones and experience learning beyond the classroom. These shared experiences often become some of the most treasured primary school memories. We know this camp offers incredible opportunities for our students to grow as confident, capable young people.

Our PTA Picnic takes place this Thursday, a lovely opportunity to come together as a school community. Whether you are new to Churchill Park School or have been part of our community for many years, this is a chance to reconnect, meet new families, and strengthen the relationships that make our school so special. As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child. At Churchill Park School, that village is our collective, students, staff, whānau, and wider community, working together to ensure our children thrive. Last year, a highlight was the magician who wowed our children (and many big children, too !).

Goal Setting Conferences Week 9
|
Our Goal Setting Conferences will take place in Week 9 on Wednesday, April 1st, from 12.30pm - 6pm. Students are asked to be collected at 12 pm, however, supervision is provided at school until 3pm for those parents who have no alternative. Supervised children will be doing games and activities in the Library/ MLE. These student-led conversations with the teacher are key to our commitment to Thriving Ako. They empower learners to understand their progress, articulate their learning goals, and take ownership of their next steps. We strongly encourage all whānau to participate in this important learning conversation. It's a valuable partnership opportunity for students, teachers, and whānau to celebrate strengths, identify areas for growth, and agree on clear goals moving forward. Reporting Update Hero Platform & Progress Descriptors
|
|
This year, we are continuing to strengthen how we report student progress using our Hero online platform for mid-year and end-of-year reporting. As part of national changes, schools are now required to use new progress descriptors. These are designed to provide clear and consistent language so you can better understand how your child is progressing each year. In Reading, Writing, and Mathematics, your child’s progress will be described using one of five progress descriptors.

These descriptors identify where your child is currently achieving, and clarify whether they are progressing as expected, as well as outline what is needed to support further growth. At the end of the year, students identified as proficient or above are considered ready for the next year of learning. As we move closer to our mid year reporting, we will share more information about how this will look. SchoolDocs Accessing Our Policies

Churchill Park School uses SchoolDocs to manage and review our policies and procedures, ensuring they align with current legislation and best practice. Our Board and leadership team follow an annual review schedule, inviting community feedback throughout the year. This process helps ensure our policies reflect our values of Respect, Responsibility, and Resilience and guide a safe, inclusive, and healthy school culture. On Friday 27th March, we will be holding a cultural celebration day, as part of our "Ko Wai Tatou" topic study for term one.
Come to school dressed in something that represents the culture that you identify with.
There will be a parade on the courts at 9.10 am to celebrate the rich array of cultures that are represented at CPS.

School Payments
|
The School Donation remains at $525. Most parents will be entitled to claim a tax rebate - if you are a top tax rate payer a 33% reduction is available.

Waitematā Whānau - please make your Camp Carey payment through kindo. You can pay in installments if you prefer.
|
Please make school payments through your mykindo account. There are several methods to add funds to your account. Add regular topups if you'd like, then allocate to payments when you're ready, or just pay as you go. mykindo is also where you can order school lunches. Set up your kindo account.

Has your child grown out of their CPS uniform?
Please do remember donating it to the second hand uniform shop. But PLEASE ensure zips work, buttons are present, not too much paint/ vivid on shirts and blouses.

Our school is taking part in a Story Store book drive to support children’s literacy across New Zealand. Story Store is a local charity set up by retired school librarians and volunteers that redistributes donated children’s books to lower-decile schools, where teachers and students choose the books they need — at no cost to them. We welcome donations of good-quality children’s books and thank our community for helping make a meaningful difference.
