From our Principal - Marie Todd
The term is well underway, and it has been fantastic to see the energy and enthusiasm across the school as our learners reconnect, refocus, and get back into the rhythm of school life. We continue to focus on supporting our students to grow not only academically, but also in their well-being, building resilience, strengthening relationships, and developing the skills to navigate everyday challenges.

The WITS (see below) are an important part of how we bring our Thriving Tangata goal to life, embedding wellbeing practices and building resilience in our children’s everyday experiences. These strategies support students to navigate conflict in both the classroom and playground, equipping them with practical tools to manage challenges, regulate emotions, and strengthen relationships.
|

While WITS have been part of our school for many years, they remain a key component in fostering a shared language across the school, empowering students to make positive choices and contributing to a culture where wellbeing, respect, and personal responsibility are actively lived.
|
At times, children will come home and share frustrations about their day. As parents, this can be difficult to hear, and our natural instinct is to want to take away their hurt and respond quickly on their behalf. It is important to remember that children often share their perspective in the moment, which may not always reflect the full or balanced picture. At times, details can be unintentionally omitted or shaped by emotion, as, understandably, no child wants to feel they may be in the wrong. Often, taking the opportunity to revisit the conversation with your child the following day, when emotions have settled, can provide a more balanced view of what has taken place and support your child to reflect more deeply.

When concerns do arise, we ask that communication with the school is approached in a calm and considered way. Taking a moment to pause before sending an email, particularly late at night, can allow time for reflection and help ensure communication remains constructive. Messages sent in heightened moments can sometimes lead to misunderstanding and place undue pressure on staff outside of school hours. We strongly encourage parents to come in and speak with us face-to-face, in a friendly and respectful manner, so that we can work through any concerns together. While our approach may not always align exactly with every individual expectation, please be assured that our decisions are made with careful thought, professional judgement, and a genuine commitment to the well-being and best interests of every child. Our teachers are deeply committed to the well-being of every child and work carefully to understand situations from all perspectives during the school day. We value respectful, constructive communication and ask for your support in modelling this for our children. Trusting in the professional judgement of our staff and in the systems we have in place enables us to work in partnership to support your child to grow in resilience, take responsibility, and strengthen their relationships with others. As always, our approach is grounded in our school values of respect, responsibility, and resilience, and we thank you for your ongoing support in upholding these within our school community.

I would also like to acknowledge Darryll Poole, our fabulous Caretaker and Property Manager. Over the past four years, since joining CPS, Darryl has worked tirelessly to rejuvenate our school buildings and grounds. From the day-to-day upkeep to larger improvement projects, his pride in our school is evident in every corner of the site. Darryll’s proactive approach, attention to detail, and willingness to go above and beyond ensure that our environment remains safe, welcoming, and well cared for for our students, staff, and community. Much of what he does happens quietly behind the scenes, yet it has a significant impact on the look, feel, and functionality of our school. And while Darryll sets high standards for himself, it’s fair to say his “boss” also has a knack for keeping expectations equally high, something he meets with good humour and unwavering commitment! We are incredibly fortunate to have Darryll as part of our team and thank him for the care and dedication he brings to CPS each and every day.

We are excited to share our new team/whānau logos with you.

These were developed by our teachers as part of our ongoing work in designing a local curriculum that reflects who we are, where we are, and the stories of our surrounding environment. Each logo represents not only a phase of learning within the school, but also draws inspiration from our local area, our moana, landscapes, and the rich connections we have to place. They help to strengthen a sense of identity and belonging for our students as they move through the school.

We would love to welcome as many mums or special people as possible to our Mother’s Day celebration on Monday, 11th, 8 - 8.30 am in the hall. Join us for a gentle yoga session, followed by a sweet treat, an opportunity to relax, connect, and celebrate the wonderful role you play in our children’s lives. We look forward to sharing this special morning with you!

World Vision Conference
|
On Monday, our student Leaders went to the annual World Vision Conference at the Trust Arena in Henderson.
|
|
The World Vision Youth Leadership Conference was an inspiring event that empowered rangatahi to think deeply about their role as leaders in a changing world. Throughout the conference, students explored the theme of leadership in action, learning that leadership is not just about titles, but about making positive choices, showing initiative, and standing up for what is right. Workshops and discussions highlighted the key qualities of effective leaders, including empathy, resilience, courage, integrity, and the ability to listen and collaborate.

A highlight of the conference was hearing from Maia Wilson, captain of the Silver Ferns, who shared her personal journey and insights into leadership at the highest level. She spoke about the importance of hard work, self-belief, and supporting others to succeed, reminding students that leadership begins with how we treat people every day.
|
|
The conference strongly aligned with the values of our Kura Kaupapa, emphasising the holistic development of ākonga. It encouraged global citizenship, active participation in change, and mutual transformation. Students left feeling motivated to lead with purpose, contribute to their communities, and make a meaningful difference in the world.
|
|
As a school we are committed to supporting this year’s 40 Hour challenge, which starts on Friday, 19 June. More news about how you can support this will follow.

School Payments
|
The School Donation remains at $525. Most parents will be entitled to claim a tax rebate - if you are a top tax rate payer a 33% reduction is available.
|
|
|
|
Please make school payments through your mykindo account. There are several methods to add funds to your account. Add regular topups if you'd like, then allocate to payments when you're ready, or just pay as you go. mykindo is also where you can order school lunches. Set up your kindo account.
|
|

Has your child grown out of their CPS uniform?
Please do remember donating it to the second hand uniform shop. But PLEASE ensure zips work, buttons are present, not too much paint/ vivid on shirts and blouses.

Proposed Pump Park in Glendowie Park
Please see details below of the open-day for the proposed Pump Park in Glendowie Park with Ōrākei Local Board members.

Venue: On-site (Glendowie Park, opposite Glendowie Primary)
|
We have 3,000 children in the suburbs of St Heliers and Glendowie. Currently children are building their own tracks and jumps in our local parks. The Council have identified that a Pump Park is a needed amenity in our area to support outdoor activities for our local children.
The St Heliers and Glendowie Residents Association support this proposal.
