We are racing through the term, week 7! When you're having fun, time flies. We welcomed our week 6 New Entrant starters and their whānau last week, and visits are underway for our Term 4 starters. Welcome to CPS.
|
Open Learning Conversation will take place on Thursday 4th of September, from 3:15 pm onwards. It is great to see that many of you have already booked a time. These conferences are an opportunity for your child to share and celebrate their learning and are student-led conferences run by your child for whānau, focused on their recent learning, and progress and achievement.
|
We look forward to the school hosting the Father’s Day Breakfast on Friday 5th of September, at 7.45 am celebrating our wonderful Dads and father figures. Mr Watt has some great activities planned, the BBQ will be out for a sausage sizzle, and I believe a tug-of-war may also be on the cards. So all father figures are welcome in acknowledging as a community the important role our fathers, grandfathers, uncles and the like, play in our lives - I don’t know where I would be without my Dad!

I am encouraged to see 10 nominations for the 3 positions in the CPS School Parent Board Election. It is heartening to know that so many in our community are willing to contribute their time, energy, and expertise to the governance of our school. I wish each of the candidates all the very best, and I look forward to welcoming the successful members onto the Board in the coming weeks. At the same time, we are farewelling Melinda Williams and Ben Coleman as Board members. Both have been instrumental in guiding the governance of CPS and in helping to shape the school’s direction during their tenure. Their commitment, wisdom, and support have been deeply valued, and we are grateful for the positive impact they have made on our students, staff, and wider school community.

Winter ills and chills are in full force at the moment. Having experienced this myself last week, my usual hardy immune system was wiped out for most of the week. Many of our students as well as teachers are also dealing with sickness. Typically we are able to find relievers to cover classes however, this is always difficult during the third term when many schools are in the same position. When relievers cannot be sourced classes may need to be split. If your child is unwell with a cough, runny nose, or generally not feeling well, we strongly encourage you to keep them at home in order to stop the spread of bugs.

Of late, education is front and center in the news with announcements from the Education Minister about the dire state of academic achievement across the country. I commend the Minister on her proactive approach in supporting the endeavours of schools in providing a quality education. I would however like to reiterate Churchill Park School is a high achieving school with our students achieving in the 90th percentile for Literacy and Mathematics, thanks to our rigorous teaching programmes, evidence-based practices, and the collective commitment of staff, whānau, and students. This continued success highlights that while national challenges are real, schools like ours demonstrate what can be achieved through high expectations, strong partnerships, and a learning environment where every child is encouraged to “Stand Tall – Aim High.”

School Board Election Update
All parents should have received voting instructions via email from Election Pilot. BOTH parents are eligible to vote. If you haven't received an email, please get in touch with Election Pilot by email on election@electionpilot.nz or on 0800 VOTENZ (0800 868 369).

We will be sending in our sheets of Yummy stickers early next term. We've got quite a few... but we'd love more! The more stickers, the more free sports gear for our school! |
The School Donation remains at $525. Most parents will be entitled to claim a tax rebate - if you are a top tax rate payer a 33% reduction is available.

Please make school payments through your mykindo account. There are several methods to add funds to your account. Add regular topups if you'd like, then allocate to payments when you're ready, or just pay as you go. mykindo is also where you can order school lunches. Set up your kindo account.
