Thank you to everyone who joined us for this week’s Cross Country event. It was wonderful to see so many supporters lining the course, encouraging our students as they showed determination and resilience every step of the way. It is these memorable experiences that help the children to develop skills that stand them in good stead for future sporting events, whether they are competitive runners or ‘tail end charlie’, each child can set their own goals and work towards their personal best.

At Churchill Park School we believe in promoting the holistic well-being of our students and empowering them with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed decisions about their health and well-being. Our Health Curriculum aims to foster the physical, mental, social and emotional development of our students, enabling them to lead happy, healthy, and fulfilling lives. Biannually, community consultation is sought gathering perspectives in building strong partnerships among students, whānau and the wider community creating a supportive and nurturing environment that fosters positive relationships and health outcomes for all. You have the opportunity to provide feedback until Friday 29th August, when the survey closes. A summary of the findings will be shared with parents/whānau in Term 4. We are pleased to share that our school hall is once again open for use. Following a thorough assessment, the Ministry of Education has given the all clear for the hall’s safe return to regular activities. We are grateful for the patience and understanding shown by our community during this period of restricted access, and we look forward to seeing the hall once again filled with school events, assemblies, and performances.
|
Next week, we warmly invite families to our Intermediate Expo, where the Rangitoto Team will showcase the rich learning experiences and opportunities offered in Years 7 and 8. The Expo will be held on Thursday 14th August, from 8:00–9:00am, and is designed especially for families of students in Years 3–6. Parents and students are encouraged to attend together and gain a firsthand look at the engaging, future-focused environment our Intermediate provides. This is your chance to discover our exciting learning programmes, meet our dedicated teachers, and explore the wide range of opportunities we provide, from academic excellence and leadership development to arts, sports, and STEM. Responsibility and respect are two of the school’s values, which seem to be lacking of late at drop-off and pick-up times. The driving behaviour of some parents is simply unacceptable. Impatience when others are parking, allowing children to exit vehicles on the roadside, and blatantly ignoring yellow lines shows a disregard for the safety of our students and the wider community. There are two clearly designated, safe footpaths for children to use, there is absolutely no excuse for dropping children on the road. Parking illegally is not just inconsiderate, it endangers others and creates unnecessary congestion for everyone. We all lead busy lives, but that does not give anyone the right to put others at risk. It’s time to put safety and respect first, our children are watching and learning from your example.

It is a challenging time for many across the workforce, with the rising cost of living and ongoing economic uncertainty affecting families across a range of sectors. Employment opportunities are increasingly competitive, and some industries are experiencing significant job cuts. In light of these wider pressures, it is with sadness that we will farewell Abbey Neil-Clark, who, for family reasons, will be relocating overseas at the end of the term. Abbey is a passionate beginning teacher who has made a strong start to her teaching career, demonstrating enthusiasm, care, and a genuine commitment to her students’ learning and wellbeing. The school is fortunate to have experienced teachers as Mrs Vicki Patten who is already teaching in room 5, ready to step in next term.

Lastly, we farewell our international students who have been with us for the past four weeks. They have seamlessly settled into school life, forming friendships, engaging in learning, and contributing positively to our school community. Their presence has enriched our cultural diversity and provided valuable opportunities for our students to connect with and learn from others with different perspectives and experiences. We wish them all the very best for their journey home and hope they take with them fond memories of their time at Churchill Park School.

School Board Election Update
|
Nominations to join the school board closed today at noon. We have received eight nominations and will now proceed to a vote. Next week, parents will receive an email with voting instructions. We wish all of our nominees well.

40 Hour Challenge GRAND TOTAL
|
We have had our best ever fundraising result for the 40 Hour Challenge. This year we raised $4296!! The house that raised the most will be announced in assembly on Friday. Along with their prize!
|

|
We will also receive a visit from our ambassador at World Vision who is coming to CPS to personally thank all those that took part.
|
|
Thanks to everyone who took on the 40 Hour Challenge. As a result, families in Solomon Islands will get tools and seeds to farm climate-smart crops so they will have a reliable source of food. And mangroves will be planted to help protect their gardens from rising sea levels and attract fish back to shore. You should feel proud!

CPS Choir Trip
To celebrate Matariki, our CPS Choir visited St Andrew’s Village to share haka, traditional Māori songs (waiata), and action songs (waiata-a-ringa) with the residents. We also shared our knowledge about the significance of the Matariki stars to mark the start of the Māori New Year.
|
Our wonderful students (most of whom are also in kapa haka) delivered a heart-warming performance that brought smiles to the residents’ faces and created a wonderful intergenerational connection.
|
|
It was a truly special morning that celebrated the rich heritage of Aotearoa New Zealand. Ka rawe CPS Choir!

The School Donation remains at $525. Most parents will be entitled to claim a tax rebate - if you are a top tax rate payer a 33% reduction is available.

Please make school payments through your mykindo account. There are several methods to add funds to your account. Add regular topups if you'd like, then allocate to payments when you're ready, or just pay as you go. mykindo is also where you can order school lunches. Set up your kindo account.
