And just like that, the holiday break is over, and we welcome everyone back to school for Term 2 in what will be an 11-week term. Our new Churchill Park students and whānau (families) have started the week off positively, and we are excited to welcome you to our school community.

Our Term 1 attendance data exceeds the Ministry's objective of 80% of students attending 90% of the time, and is an improvement from last year, well done parents and whānau! What is extremely pleasing is the improvement in students arriving at school on time, with 93% compared to 73% last year.
|
|
As we enter Term 2, we often see an increase in winter illnesses. We understand that, as parents, you are best placed to judge when your child is well enough to attend school. Finding this balance is crucial for both their health and their ongoing learning.
|
|
|
|
|
|
Our 'Positive Behaviour for Learning' approach is centred on our core values, Responsibility, Respect, and Resilience. To foster a positive school culture, we actively recognise and acknowledge students who demonstrate these values, including through our Goldie reward system. Teachers also work alongside students who require additional support in resolving conflicts with peers or making decisions that are inconsistent with our school's expectations, using a restorative approach. This is a structured and supportive process designed to guide students through reflection on their actions. Students may also be asked to write a brief reflection outlining their perspective, which helps staff gather information, better understand what has taken place, and support a fair and thoughtful restorative process. It is guided by the following questions;

A restorative approach helps students understand their behaviour's impact and underlying causes. By focusing on repairing harm and strengthening relationships, these conversations build self-awareness and accountability, providing tools for better emotional management and constructive choices. This supports students' social-emotional development and fosters a safer, more positive learning environment. Our students are to be commended for their ability to resolve issues.

Without entering into the broader context of fuel pricing, we are mindful that recent increases are being felt by many in our community. Rising fuel costs not only affect daily travel but can also influence the cost of goods and services, placing added pressure on families. We wish to thank our whānau for their continued support in maintaining their children’s attendance and engagement during this period. To provide context for current circumstances, the Government has implemented the National Fuel Plan, which details the official fuel response phases.

ANZAC Learning and Commemoration
|
Across the school, our students have been learning about ANZAC and the significance it holds for Aotearoa New Zealand. Through stories, discussion, and reflection, they are developing an understanding of remembrance, service, and the importance of honouring those who came before us. We look forward to coming together this Friday (see poster below) with our whānau to commemorate ANZAC Day and acknowledge this important moment in our shared history. Just a reminder that there is no school on Monday due to ANZAC Day.

On Friday, 24th April, we will be holding a special ANZAC Day commemorative assembly, led by the School Council.
Please feel free to join us on the school courts at 9.00 am
If you, or a member of your family, is a member of any of the services and would like to assist/participate in our assembly, please email kynanw@churchillpark.school.nz
If your family has medals, feel free to give these to your children to wear to the assembly.

School Payments
|
The School Donation remains at $525. Most parents will be entitled to claim a tax rebate - if you are a top tax rate payer a 33% reduction is available.
|
|
|
|
Please make school payments through your mykindo account. There are several methods to add funds to your account. Add regular topups if you'd like, then allocate to payments when you're ready, or just pay as you go. mykindo is also where you can order school lunches. Set up your kindo account.
|
|
NB: The school no longer has an EFTPOS terminal. All payments are to be made via kindo or DC, please. DC with your child's name to: 12-3027-0387931-000

Has your child grown out of their CPS uniform?
Please do remember donating it to the second hand uniform shop. But PLEASE ensure zips work, buttons are present, not too much paint/ vivid on shirts and blouses.

|
Order school lunches through kindo to be delivered to Churchill Park School on Monday to Thursday. Check out your kindo account for suppliers and menus.

Gloves

New pillows and hot water bottles (these items must be new please)

We also always love receiving quality used bassinets, port a cot, carseats (still current) and prams.
